RULES AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENT AND CHILD
Anyone between the ages of 5 and 17 years of age may participate! You will be provided with an Old Smokey Pit, the charcoal, the pork chops, and a variety of seasonings. You provide the good time and tasty turn-ins! No one under the age of 5 or over the age of 17 may participate. Judging will be done in two age groups: Junior’s 5 – 10 and Senior’s 11 – 17.
A completed entry form and $30 entry fee is required to participate. We ask that you please try to send in your entry form prior to BBQ. The first 30 entries registered will be able to cook. Each child cooking must have adult supervision with them at all times. (NO MORE THAN 1 ADULT PER CHILD)
We will also have a Cook’s Choice competition. You can cook a hot dog, hamburger patty, a chicken leg, wing, breast or thigh, a steak or any type of meat, other than a pork chop, to turn in for the Cook’s Choice. Cook’s Choice competition is voluntary, so you do not have to participate. You are required to provide your own meat and you will cook your Cook’s Choice item on the same pit as the competition meat. For safety purposes, any cutting/chopping required may be done prior to the event. You MAY NOT season or marinate your Cook’s Choice meat until you are checked in at the Kid’s Que on Saturday morning. All Cook’s Choice entries will be inspected at the registration table and must be prepared and cooked on the grounds.
Check in will begin at 8:15 am on Saturday, November 2nd; first turn in will be at 9:45 am. Parents will be allowed to help start the fire, and they can help you turn the chops if you aren’t tall enough to do so without burning yourself. The same rule applies to the Cook’s Choice competition.
Each contestant will cook on the same type of pit and use the same type of charcoal. The competition meat (Pork Chop) will be provided by Diamonds and Dollars and the child will receive two (2) 1-1/4” inch pork chops. No garnish is allowed in the competition meat turn in box. These chops may be seasoned in any way using the seasonings provided OR you may bring your own seasoning. Competition meat, which is the Pork Chop that each contestant will cook, will be turned in at 10:30 am.
Every contestant will get to keep the Old Smokey pit. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category will win a Trophy. All contestants will earn an Award of Participation in each category; and each child will receive a ticket for a chance to win a a door prize.
